10 Simple & Genius Ways to Sneak 10,000 Steps Into Your Day

Walking has easily become the go-to exercise for people that need to lose weight or get in shape and it is especially cool because almost anyone can do it safely.

Getting your steps in becomes a fun challenge that will keep you hopping throughout the day. There is something about putting on that pedometer and knowing how many steps you take that really makes you want to succeed.

Getting 10,000 or more steps in a day has become the goal for many and it is no small task. Here are several ways to give that number a boost when you check it at the end of the day:Woman walking cross country and trail in spring forest

Take the stairs – We are so programmed to grab that elevator that it rarely crosses our minds to go up the stairs. If you happen to work in a building with multiple floors, this change can make a big difference. Those are quality steps you are taking when you climb a few flights.

Walk to work/bank/store – Most of us have locations that are relatively close by that we drive to each day. Perhaps your local store is right around the corner or your job. If so, walk instead of driving. Of course, be mindful of safety and so on… but why not grab those extra steps?

Spend time outside with the kids – Your kids are the ultimate source of steps as any parent will attest. Get outside and chase them around for a bit. When you finish, take a look at the pedometer. You will be shocked.

Get on the treadmill – Treadmills are great if you have a good place to put one. The best place is nearby a window or a television to keep your mind busy.

Get a quality fitness tracker – There are many options out there, but the Fitbit Flex is my personal favorite. If you are committed to changing your fitness profile, you simply have to keep track of what you are doing. This awesome little gadget will keep you informed and educated at the same time.

Walk every single aisle in the grocery store…twice – Grocery shopping is a pain in the neck but you can look at it as a personal workout. Why not get your steps in while you do your grocery shopping, right?

March in place when you are watching television – In fact, you should march in place no matter what you are doing. This will pay off huge over time if you commit to doing it regularly. A television show is even more awesome without the couch potato guilt.

Park at the back of the parking lot – If you do this you will gain a ton of steps and never have to fight for a parking space again. Realize the benefits but keep in mind safety measures if you leave after dark.

Take a walk every morning and every evening – Make it your routine and for the rest of your life, stick to it. It is a wonderful way to aid digestion, lose weight naturally and guarantee you a good jolt of steps towards your goal each day.

Commit to the number – Whether you are committed to 10,000 steps per day or some other number, commit to it fully. Many people make the commitment and then refuse to stick to it. If you make an investment in yourself, you can do it!
