5 Absolutely Adorable “Hidden” Sandbox Ideas

Do you have a hidden sandbox? A hidden sandbox is a sandbox that does not appear to be a sandbox at first glance. Some of these hidden sandboxes are SUPER clever! Hidden sandboxes have the added benefit of having a cover so a cat doesn’t mistake your sandbox as a litterbox 😉 .

My daughter LOVES to play in the sandbox. She just loves sand in general! She had a Sand and Water table (this one) for years, but after a crazy tornado, it had to be thrown away.

Ever since, I’ve been looking for a “hidden” sandbox idea and I think I’ve narrowed it down to these 5 as my favorites!

Hidden Sandbox

The Pavilion Sandbox – I love this Sandbox because the sandbox actually “rolls” out from under a cute and quaint little playhouse! This gives this hidden sandbox a bit more versatility. I could also see this easily adapted into something else once your children outgrown their hidden sandbox. (Purchase this hidden sandbox at Sears)

DIY Hidden Sandbox with Fold Out Seats – For the more handy DIY type, this hidden sandbox offers a comfy place to sit while you play! When it is not in use, it folds up discretely (Find plans to create this  yourself on Ana White).

Hidden Sandbox

Underbed Storage Box into Sandpit – Maybe you aren’t so handy, or maybe you need a more temporary solution. This underbed storage box (you can purchase one cheap here!) is a GREAT sandbox solution! Now unless your little one is super little, they probably can’t SIT in this sandbox, but it can still offer hours of fun! (FYI, you can find the tutorial for this one here, but it’s pretty self explanatory. I also did this on a smaller scale a few years back with my DIY Rice Box, click here to check that out!)

Hidden Sandbox

Little Tikes “Hidden” Private Treasure Sandbox – Okay, this one is a bit less discrete than the others. Even with the lid on, I still think it looks like a child’s toy. However, it is actually the same colors as a lot of outdoor furniture, so it will blend better than a bright shiny primary color sandbox IMO. Plus, the lid fits on tightly, so maybe it won’t blow a block away in the next (hopefully never?) tornado we have. (I mean, I live in Southeast Texas, NOT Tornado Alley!). (Purchase this Hidden Sandbox here on Amazon!)

Sand & Water Picnic Table – Okay this is my FAVORITE! You can have your very own picnic table that is also a sand and water table! Unfortunatley, other than some pictures on Pinterest, I can’t seem to figure out where to find a store that sells this or the plans to build it. Of course! Isn’t that the way it goes? My favorite hidden sand table will always be the one just out of reach 😉 .

I’m not sure we’ll get another sand table/sandbox. I hope we do one day because my daughter could literally spend hours entertaining herself with just a bit of sand and some shovels/buckets. I hope when we do, we choose from one of these clever hidden sandboxes though!

Already have a sandbox? Don’t forget the sand (cheapest to buy in stores)! And the sand toys! Click the pictures to purchase:
