5 Tips to Freshen Up Your Home So It Smells Great!

This post contains sponsored content, all opinions are my own.

ecological and scented spray cleaner

Ideally we would all have naturally perfect smelling homes all the time. However, sometimes we just don’t. Sometimes that fishy dinner smell lingers into the next day. Sometimes the whole house just needs a freshening up! Here are my 5 tips for quickly helping your house smell great (especially useful if company is coming in 30 minutes or less!):

Diffuse or warm something that smells GREAT!

We use Scentsy brand or just regular wax warmers (Amazon has a ton to choose from!). We use scented wax from the grocery store, Scentsy, the dollar store, etc. Honestly I know some people are super picky about what kind of wax they use, but I honestly haven’t noticed a difference in scent longevity between brands (*waits for Scentsy consultant pitchforks*).

We also have a diffuser that I will move from room to room. We diffuse Young Living Essential Oils in our diffuser. This serves a dual purpose of freshening up the air and also many oils provide health benefits as well. You can purchase Young Living Essential Oils here.

Use Odor Absorbing or Scented Trash Liners

This is just a real simple way that you can add a pleasant smell to a room. I find this works especially well in a bathroom where a candle/diffuser/warmer would overpower such a small room. We prefer the Glad Kitchen OdorShield® bags in the 13 gallon size (yes we have a large kitchen trash can in our bathroom! The toilet is in a closed off tiny room with a small trash can and the large trash can is in the big master bathroom.).

The subtle scent of these bags is also perfect for the kitchen. Especially on fridge clean out day when the odor absorbing aspect will REALLY come in handy!

Clean with Vinegar

This one is so simple! Grab an empty spray bottle and mix about 1/2 a cup of white vinegar with 2 cups of water. Use this as your cleaner all throughout the house. The vinegar smell will dissipate quickly leaving you with…well nothing. No vinegar smell but no funky smells either!

Clean your Drain and Garbage Disposals

This is the first spot I check when I smell something funky. You would be amazed at how stinky a simple drain can get! I regularly use this garbage disposal cleaner and if any of our other drains start to smell, I use baking soda and vinegar (tutorial here) to clean them up.

Fresh Air

Conceptual image - a way to freedom

Nothing revives your home like throwing open the windows and doors and giving it a good air out on a nice clear day. I try to do this at least twice a year for a whole day. In Texas there are only generally 2 days of the year that this is tolerable!
