We had a weekend of extremes. Extreme busyness quickly followed up by extreme laziness.
Friday night we THOUGHT my son was going to have baseball practice, but since he did not we piled up in the car and ate a yummy dinner at our favorite Mexican Restaurant (for those of you in Houston…Jimmy Changas is the bomb!). It’s our favorite Friday night spot because we can get a few drinks, the kids can play on the playground and it just has a festive “Woohoo the week is done!” atmosphere.
Saturday morning we were up bright and early for my daughter’s cheerleading. She cheers for the PeeWee team, so thankfully we only have to be there for one game. Home games are actually a big pain in the butt here because our home field is awful for early morning games!
The sun is relentless and here in Texas it is still VERY hot. We love watching our little girl cheer though (and she is actually quite good at it!).
My nephew plays football for the same team (but an older division) so eventually when the weather cools off, we’ll hopefully stay to watch one of his games as well.
At noon, we hurried over to the ball field for my son to play his first game of fall ball (the cute outfit my daughter is wearing was made by me. Details here) He’s kid pitch division for the first time and let me tell you….this is going to take some getting used to. TeeBall basically was strike out free. Coach pitch saw some strike outs, but was still pretty fun and exciting. Machine Pitch was very exciting because the kids had gotten a lot better at the game in general and most kids hit at least once (if not more) per game.
Kid pitch though. Yikes. First off, the field is ginormous. Secondly, the pitchers are still learning to pitch and the catchers are still learning to catch. Which means almost nobody gets to hit the ball, a lot of kids get hit with the ball and a lot of kids walk to first base. Which means almost every run is obtained via stealing bases as the catcher runs to grab a wayward pitch. My son typically plays outfield so quite honestly he stood in the outfield doing nothing for an hour and was at bat twice. He said he had fun though, and that’s what matters. Hopefully it gets better?
The rest of Saturday and ALL of Sunday we just lazed around. It was a bit hard to get back into the groove of things this morning!
Tell me, how was your weekend?
Without further ado….here are the things I am loving this week:
Intuition Razors – this isn’t a new love for me. In fact, I’ve been using these razors exclusively for well over 10 years. This is the only razor that does not leave razor burn on my legs. I love that the “shaving cream” is basically caked around the razor so it’s a quick one stop shop. They are a bit pricey, but I usually buy the large pack at Sam’s or grab them on Amazon or the drug stores when I find a sale/coupon.
Ipsy – I actually wrote about my love for this one on Family Friendly Frugality today.
The Martian – I read this book several months ago, but oh my goodness, I am SO excited for the movie! I live in Houston and have several friends that work at NASA. They recently were able to go to a pre-screening and had GREAT things to say. I can’t wait! This is one of those “can’t put down” books. You must read it if you enjoy sci fi, dystopian fiction, the space program, etc. It is riveting and quite honestly it’s pretty funny too.
Paying it Forward – I think Monday’s are the perfect day to “pay it forward”. I did just that this morning. I’ve had a smile on my face all day. Love making a strangers Monday just a bit more pleasant.
PicMonkey – I’ve always thought of this as a bloggers tool, but I used it on Saturday to brighten up and crop a pic of Lizzie’s cheer team to send to her coach. I have Photoshop Elements, but to be honest it’s kind of a bulky program when you just need to quickly adjust something simple on a photo. Super easy to use. I do use the paid version, but that’s not necessary for the typical user.
