I was compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.
Well, it’s a new year and a new year means new GOALS! Who else could stand to lose a few pounds? If you are not hopping on the weight loss bandwagon, maybe your goal is just to make 2015 a year of health!
Regardless, we probably all need to tighten the reigns a bit on our post holiday eating.
Thankfully, I have been pretty impressed with my diet the past few weeks. I honestly was fed up pretty soon after Christmas this year. Too much junk and I think there was a week in December where my diet consisted solely of desserts and carbs (and not the veggie/whole grain kind!).
Therefore, I started easing my way into the Trim Healthy Mama plan just before New Years Day (FYI, before the purists come attack me if I post a dessert recipe anytime soon, I don’t plan to adhere to that plan 100% though, it’s kind of the Heather plan loosely based on THM).
Now, like I said I am not adhering to that plan 100%, but I have enjoyed some modest weight loss so far this year. I have a LOT to lose, so it’s not surprising to me that simple changes have made a difference so quickly.
The enemy of healthy eating is boredom though, so I have had to make sure I feel good about what I’m eating. Both from a health AND satisfaction perspective!
A weight loss staple for me has ALWAYS been yogurt. I don’t know why, but I always seem to lose weight better when I eat yogurt on a daily basis. I lost 40 lbs on Weight Watchers pre-kids eating a daily afternoon snack of Blueberry Yoplait Light and a low fat cheese stick. Since my lunches tend to be light when the kids are at school all day, that snack really fills me up and bridges the gap between lunch and dinner. Which prevents me from raiding the kids snack cupboard 😉 .
I am a nighttime snacker though and this of course causes problems! It’s something that I just can’t seem to let go of. I’m also guilty of using this time period to make the WORST food choices.
I just need something sweet at night. I feel deprived otherwise. Deprived Heather is sad Heather ;(
Since my yogurt/cheesestick combo worked so well for lunch, I tried it for dessert. It just didn’t fulfill the “dessert” craving for me though. One day, I was browsing Pinterest and I found these Yoplait light “hacks” and I was inspired to “dessert up” my Yoplait Light Blueberry Yogurt. I grabbed some canned heavy cream (only 15 calories per serving, no high fructose syrup, made with real heavy cream) and topped off a cute little bowl of dessert. Nixed the cheesestick and bam! Dessert!
Having a healthy, go to snack that is convenient will help me reach my goals!
Other great flavors of Yoplait Light include (but not limited to): Boston Cream Pie, Raspberry Cheesecake, Key Lime Pie, Harvest Peach and Strawberry (we actually buy a fridge pack each week that has 4 blueberry and 4 strawberry!)
